Today, many parents argue over whether or not their maturing teenager should be allowed to own a car in high school. Many teenagers feel that by owning a car a new gate is opened to extra opportunities. The common teenager only thinks about the positives to owning or purchasing a car at such a young age. Unfortunately with positives come negatives and these teenagers that own cars will soon experience them. There are many reasons why a teenager should think about not owning a car through high school.
Undoubtedly, one reason a teenager should not own a car through high school is that it costs money! When one thinks of the possibility of owning a car he never seems to want to ponder the fact of its costs. When a student purchases a car he or she must also purchase insurance too! Currently insurance does not run cheap and the better car you own, the more insurance you will pay. Owning a car and squandering money come hand in hand with each other. It should not take a genius to recognize that by spending money on monthly car payments, one is burning a bottomless hole in his wallet.

This next reason is common among many families. By owning a car the teenager now accepts the obligation or parent declared rule of becoming a chauffeur to his siblings. Whether or not it was written in the car warranty, owning a car means taking the responsibility of driving siblings wherever they see fit. Now I believe that the most common trait among teenagers is laziness. Nowadays teenagers already do not like doing what is not required. A teenager should realize this among himself and not want to purchase a car for it is like asking to run the family errands.
The fourth reason that a teenager should consider before purchasing a car is whether he or she has the responsibility required to operate the automobile. Around the ages of 16 to 17 students across the nation begin to receive their licenses. These licenses not only grant one the ability to drive a car legally, but they also allow inexperienced drivers to operate potential murder weapons. By purchasing a car a teenager is essentially saying that he or she is responsible enough to abide by the rules of the road during the operation of the vehicle.
