Bubble Gum

I would like everyone to feel free to blow as many bubbles as you would like while I am telling you the things that I learned about gum. I am going to talk about three different aspects of gum; the "natural" gum era, how William Wrigley Jr. improved gum, and finally I am going to give you some tips on how to blow the most effective bubbles that you can.

In the times before William Wrigley invented Juicy Fruit or his Spearmint gums people were chewing on things like; resin from trees, sweet grasses, leaves, grains or a number of different waxes, as reported by the Forest District of Cook County, Illinois. In America people usually preferred to chew on the gummy resin that came from Spruce trees after they were cut. This was the most popular until the 1880's when our good old friend sweetened paraffin wax began to take it's lead over spruce resin. Here are the five most important things to remember about bubble blowing. First of all the brand of gum that you choose in very important, gums like Bubble Yum and Bubblicious add softeners to the gum so it won't stick to your face, but that makes it harder to blow bigger bubbles. So Rob recommends using Bazooka, because of the fact that it has not added any softeners to it's gum. The second thing that is important is the size of the wad you are chewing. With the stickier brands you can stuff a lot more in your mouth before the bubble reaches the size limits, so his advice is, the more the merrier. Thirdly, sugar is the enemy, chew the gum until it has lost flavor that is when you know that all the sugar is gone. If it is getting too tiresome chewing it he recommends taking the wad out of your mouth and rolling it around your hands until all the sugar is gone. The fourth thing is the speed at which you blow, when the bubble is small you have to blow a little slower and softer, but as it gets bigger you have to blow increasingly harder for the bubble to maintain its shape. Mo
