Getting Stuck in an Elevator

Ever been in an elevator? Of course you have. I'm sure almost everyone has. Well, here's a little story about my encounter with an elevator on the last day of school last year.

It was the last day of school. You could smell the excitement in the air. YES! Finally we could go home for the summer. Everyone was crazy out in the hall. You could tell no one really want to be there, not even the teachers. I walked into my English class and sat down right next to my best friend, Melissa. We began talking about what we were doing after school that day.

"Hey, maybe we can hang out," suggested Melissa.

Then the bell tardy rang. Wow! I couldn't believe that would be the last time I heard that bell in this class this year. At times it seemed like that class just went on and on, but then at other times it seemed like time just sped by.

"Alright you guys. Since it's the last day of school and none of us really want to be here, you can just leave. Just don't get into any trouble," Mr. Graff told us.

Melissa and I looked at each other; we were in total shock! We can what?! He can't be serious. I know as soon as we walk out of here, he'll code blue us or something. Well, maybe he is serious. People are leaving now

Melissa and I started loading up paper onto a book cart. That's the only thing we had to use instead of taking an armful down at a time. Finally the cart was full. We could barely see over it. I started to push it and URGH! It was almost too heavy for me to push. Almost having to get a running start, I pushed the cart through the door. Just as I got my momentum going, I realized there was a problem. "Uh, Melissa? How are we going to get this thing downstairs?"

"Suzanne, how do you think we'll get it down? The elevator of course." She said as she started to walk down the stairs.

and he's not doing anything about it. I guess it's worth a try. Simultaneously, we got us and cautiously walked towards the door. "Are you serious, Mr. Graff? You won't mark us truant or anything right?" I asked, still not sure if this was for real or not.

"Maybe it's automatic and as soon as you get in, the door closes and it just goes down. That would be really funny if we got stuck." I said trying to find the humor in a possibly scary situation. Then the old doors started to screech shut. "See I told you. It's the most technology that Nampa High has: an automatic elevator." And there we waited, and waited and waited. We both start to laugh nervously. Then the door opened again. I started to push the cart back out of the elevator relieved that we could finally get out of that old thing. Then I realized we were still on the top floor. Laughing, we got
