A detailed Summary of Carrer Report


The career I have chosen for my report is in the field of medicine and health care. In this field there are many different facets that one may choose to direct their interest, such as education, research public service, technology, military, Health Maintenance Organization, and even dentistry However I decided to focus my attention and this report on the practice of internal medicine. Mainly because my dad is a Doctor of internal medicine, making it quite a bit easier to obtain first hand information; which I feel is astronomically more advantageous and accurate.

In order to obtain the status of physician, several years of education after high school are required. During high school a person should take classes geared towards math and sciences. Once in college a person does not a have to major in pre-med in order to apply to medical school, simply taking the required undergrad classes for medical school admission is enough to be a candidate. If a person does all this they then must take and pass the MCAT'S in order to meet the application requirements. This being done the student can apply to his or her desired medical school, more than one application may be sent out, but there is a fee for each one. The last step bef


Once they have completed med school, the student must again the student must send out applications to residency programs, in hopes of being called in for an interview and gaining acceptance. As in the past each application sent has a fee. The length of time spent in residency depends on the field of expertise that the student chooses. The type of residency programs the student can choose form includes but is not limited to emergency medicine, family practice, pediatrics, dermatology, urology, podiatry, psychiatry, surgery, cardiology, optometry, and internal medicine. A residency for internal medicine lasts about four years. It is important to note that with most residency programs the hours are extremely long. At the beginning and at the end of the doctors residency program they must take a Board Certification Test.

I think being an internal medicine doctor is a good career choice. The job security will be there into the foreseeable future. The income is very good the benefits are excellent. With the advancements in medicine constantly continuing, practicing as an internal medicine doctor will always be interesting also.
