The presidential election of 1932 was the Democratic candidate Franklin D. Roosevelt and the Republican candidate Herbert C. Hoover. America was reeling from the stock market crash of 1929 and they were looking for someone that would lead them past this horrible time and into prosperity. This subject alone was the tone for the election. If the candidates couldn't prove that they had a plan they wouldn't be the next President.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was born in 1882 at Hyde Park, New York. He attended Harvard then went to Columbia Law School. Herbert C. Hoover was born 1874 in an Iowa village. He moved to Oregon and grew up there. After graduating high school he enrolled at Stanford when it opened in 1891, graduating as a mining engineer. After graduating he got married and moved to China and became China's leading engineer. But, he left China after the Boxer Rebellion erupted. He then became known as a person that helped people. He helped tourists leave Europe when war erupted, and he also helped feed millions of people in Europe. He was then appointed Secretary of Commerce under President Harding and Coolidge.
