Ever since the shooting at Columbine High School, there has been an increased interest in violence and how it affects our children. It has started other school shootings with similar acts of violence, thus, leading parents and even children searching for answers. Answers to why and even how these events could happen. Some look towards gun control, some look towards parenting methods, and some look at the media. For instance, Susan Douglas, author of "A Look at Terror with My Daughter," and Stephen M. Wolf, author of "Countering Violence," both view the media as a negative influence on children. However, that is, indeed, the true question. Does the media have an influence on violent behavior, or is it just a scapegoat?

In conclusion, it may not be clear whether media violence has a negative affect on our children, but it can be said that the media does influence our children. However, one thing can be certain, that the media will not change unless we change it. In the words of Stephen M. Wolf, "We must have wisdom. We must have will. We reap that which we sow" (314).
In other words, video games, in a way, are a way of practicing to kill, which leads to insensitivity towards violent acts in the real world. However, not only are video games to blame, but television also plays an equal part. For instance, in several laboratory studies it has been shown that "aggressive or prosocial behaviour can be induced by particular television presentations" (Prior).
