The Little Prince
I must admit, I have read The Little Prince on more than one occasion. I find it hard to write a "reaction paper" per se, only because the things that a first time reader may react to, I would merely "gloss over" in my search for the more hidden gems contained within the text. I believe I have found several fine examples which give me insight into the characters' and quite possibly the author's minds. I feel, that to completely immerse oneself in this wonderful book, one must forget all the trivial things in the world today, namely anything that is a matter of consequence should be ignored. For example, the cost of a house, calculating stars that a person perhaps may own, etc. I chose to read this book, in my room, on my bed, with no music or TV on in the background, and just a dim little mood lighting. I feel this greatly enhanced my reading experience and allowed me to open my mind to the story.
(My two of my favorite quotes from this story) (in reference to the feelings of love and friendship, this book is that the little prince is a sad, perhaps depressed, and lonely sort of fellow, seeking companionship. This is clearly evidenced by the line "You know-one loves the sunset, when one is sad..." It could be argued that it is the sunset that causes the little prince to reminisce about different past events in his life that may make him sad. For me, sunsets symbolize the end of something, a day, most obviously, perhaps the end of a person's life (death?). What this event is for the little prince, I will never know, though I do desire to know so very much. Another way the book is sad, and makes a reference to death is at the very end, when it comes time for the prince to leave Earth. The little prince's body (just a shell mind you) must be killed in order for the prince to return to his planet. "I, too, am going back home today.
