Amadeus is a tale of madness, longing, envy, lust, and confession. All of it surrounds one man: Antonio Salieri. It's 1781 and Salieri is the court composer to Emperor Joseph II. All is well, until Mozart arrives and shows off musical talent that Salieri has prayed to God for all his life. Salieri becomes obsessively jealous of Mozart, and cannot believe that God would choose a "lustful, boastful, child" as his instrument on Earth. Salieri turns his back on God because he does not posses Mozart's talent and vows that God and his musical creation will suffer for this injustice.

While most of the events portrayed in the film are fictitious, there are a few things that are dead on target. One of them is the incomprehensible genius, Mozart. All of his accomplishments discussed in the film are true.
Mozart was not the classical version that the film portrays him to be. True, Mozart was know to be very earthy at times, he enjoyed life and a number of vices, but this is also the man whose music portrays an angelic purity that seems out of place being written by a simple mortal.
No one knows or probably ever will know. It's a secret, a very fragile wisp of a secret that has shattered all too quickly in the lives of many like Mozart who have died so young. The most we can do is to appreciate, treasure and dream of what could have been
