Talent Well Wasted

Webster's Dictionary defines moral as; "pertinent to the distinction between right and wrong, and the rules of right conduct." In today's society the lines of societal morality have been blurred into nothing more than an illusion. What is right for society is no longer decided by the people of the society, but more by the society's media. Instead of being used as a tool to help people improve themselves or feel safe, it highlights everything that is wrong with our society. If you turn on the ten o'clock news you will never hear the great things that happened that day, instead you will hear of every robbery, murder, rape, house fire, tax scandal, government scandal, you name it it's there, within 500 hundred miles of your respective city. But the thing about all of this is, that the government can do absolutely nothing about because of something called the 1st Amendment. Much was the same in Plato's day, except, Plato would banish his media (artists and poets) from his society because he believed that art is a significant formative agent in man's moral and spirit

Franz Kafka completely failed to represent a moral and accurate portrayal of reality. The thought of a man, one living at home in his thirties and two turning into a beetle, or any bug for that matter, is completely absurd. And to actual have this published for society to read presents people with a false reality. Who would actually turn into a bug? People then and today had and have more important things to worry about and could be busy studying mathematics or science, something that is for real, instead of reading a book about a life size bug.

Never in my life have I read something so outlandish and off base. Granted it may be well written. But I would take something poorly written and realistic of something well written and off-base any day of the week. This piece was and still is a crude instrument in the altered reality that art can present to people and it is a shame that his time and effort could not have been put towards something that would have been good for society. If only he could have written a guide to writing book or something. But I guess I can
