Should Teenagers Work?
Work is part of a person's life. People work in order to support themselves, their families and to be able to enjoy their life, like go on vacation or buy something useful. Teenagers, like any adults need to have money to enjoy their lives, or even help to support their families. Teenagers now are a big, and usually cheap force of labor, which are working between 15-30 hours per week. Many researchers say that work affects students' education and social life. However, work teaches teens to be more responsible, and they learn "general employability skills" which are useful for the future jobs. Teenagers should continue working during their high school years, because they are being prepared to survive in the real adult world.By working teenagers learn the value of money. In the article "Why Fast-Food Joints Don't Serve Up Good Jobs For Kids" by Amitai Etzioni, he says, "That teenagers buy useless objects that they don't need". Teenagers, by having their own income don't have to depend on anyone; they don't have to bug their parents any time they want to buy new shoes or something. Although critics say that working at a fast-food joint like McDonalds is a "dead end-job" the skills that you learn there are very useful and significant. In the article "McJobs" by Ben Wildavsky he explains that "McDonalds is a survival job, many people can't handle it, this is a job where it shows you if you can work or not." While, Amitai Etzioni says that "you learn few skills that will be useful in later life", you learn many "general employability skills", which are needed for any other kind of jobs. In the fast food joint or any retail store you learn how to deal with customers, learn teamwork, taking directions, being on time, finishing assigned task, and awareness of how a business runs. By working teenagers learn those skills and will be prepared for any fu
