The Day My Life Changed
The day my life changed October 31st, 2001 5:00 am the alarm goes off beep, beep, beep, "Megan, will you turn that damn thing off." "Uuhh, what." "Turn it off." "Ok, ok." "It's way to early to be alive, I'm probably going back to sleep when we get there." "Yeah right, you won't be able to sleep." As we began to prepare for the biggest day of our life the conversation was nothing of great importance. We had to be at the hospital by 7:00 am, that was a mere 2 hours away. By 6:00 am I had all our bags ready to go: snacks, things to do, clothes, his clothes, car seat to bring him home in and of course the video camera. As nerve racking as it all was the doctors assured us everything was fine, our soon to be son just needed a little extra help to come into this world. I always said why would he want to come out of a nice warm place where he's always fed and always comforted. It was 7:00 am as we entered the hospital carrying our luggage. The next hour is probably the most memorable time in my life and will stay that way till I die. The next thing we know Megan's yelling that she's ready to push, and everyone's looking at her like yeah right, there's no way your fully dilated yet. So the nurse checked her and sure enough she was ready. So they started getting ready, and paged our doctor to get down to our room. After what seemed like forever our doctor finally arrived. Meanwhile they were still setting up all the trays, tools, towels and such. It was like we were in our own little world though, oblivious to everything going on around us. So we went about our day; set up our room the way we wanted it. It was around 7:30-8:00 am that the nurse came in to hook up Megan to the I.V. Around 9:20am the nurse came back and started the pitocin. The nurse also hooked up a machine that read the contractions, and we could listen to o
