A Society

I have spent over time, searching an interesting author and novel or tale till I first found Virginia woolf. She had her literacy life make upon one of the most brilliant author who showed herself deeply engaged in social problems from her lifetime.

I considered a hard task to develop some comments on regard to Virginia Woolf's work - 'A society' - without having previous information of hers. Although, I heard a lot about several novelists and author in my studies at University, until I decided for the author above. Finally, let me show you what I considered more significant details on Virginia Woolf.

Virginia Woolf felt the most manifestations of depression. Why did it happen to her? For instance, in those troubled years, she was emotionally disturbed because of the sexual advances of her half-brother George Duckworth. Her brother remained a tolerated but persistent troublesome presence in her life until she was in twenties. Of course, some critics have exaggerated the extent of this intrusion in her life as I have told you. It explains to us why she was considered a real feminist and possesses of deeply knowledge of women's world. Anyway, it helps me to identify her, as soon as, I start reading anything which

It was not all, in her tale 'A society'; she chose an irony way to exposure another serious problem, that is, prejudice involving women. Doing it perfectly, so she was too skilled to convey her thinking into written language. Meanwhile her two daughters were educated for the most part by their parents, at home, Virginia was given the run of her father's library. Her hours of reading were her real education. Although, she was well-literacy citizen, she was denied from university courses because of her sex. In this point, I could understand another theme of her tale 'A society' - sex discrimination.

Now, I have presented her back ground, I'd like to discuss openly some fragments which call more my attention in her work 'Monday or Tuesday', in particular, one of those eight stories - 'A society'.

If we hadn't learnt to read," she said bitterly, "we might still have been bearing children in ignorance and that I believe was the happiest life after all. I know what you're going to say about war," she checked me, "and the horror of bearing children to see them killed, but our mothers did it, and their mothers, and their mothers before them. And they didn't complain. They couldn't read. I've done my best," she sighed, "to prevent my little girl from learning to read, but what's the use? I caught Ann only yesterday with a newspaper in her hand and she was beginning to ask me if it was 'true.'

There were great contrasts between men and women so men keep themselves worried in bearing books and pictures while women fill the word to be schooled by them. As she said, "while we have borne the children, they, we supposed, have borne the books and the pictures. We have populated the world. They have civilized it." To emphasize it, additionally, it says, "You can judge of our simplicity when I tell you that before parting that night we agreed that the objects of life were to produce good people and good books."

From now on, I find myself in some British Museum for they want to visit the Royal Academy and the Tate; hearing modern music in concert rooms and saw new plays. I call you in to read carefully the fragment below.

This fragment makes explicit the concept changing about women's role so I could figure out what some of them have done up to now. Castalia, then, opened her heart and began freeing her inner evolution. Next, they were enjoying precious moments in the Royal Academy. It draws them close to profound feeling resurrected through Arts. As we have noticed to be alone, in the time, was a terrible thing in women's life, but this group sees how enjoyable opportunity they had to use their "freedom" in order to contemplate the world outside their ambitious which was only found in their dreams. Castalia was not wrong when she attributed herself an impure condition what was rapidly understood by her fellows. To be married and consequently pregnant involved stays at home, taking care of her children, husband, and house. In some of cases, she renounced her life and loses a chance to take part of communities' decisions, or say freely what she really felt. Differently from what we, in parts, see today - They (men) despise them (women), according to her. Eleanor's conclusion, certainly, matched with other women. It comes true as if Castalia should go because she did not belong to that group anymore. Whereas she bears her baby, she might abandon them. It was the destiny of all them.
