Alexander Graham Bell
Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 3rd 1847. After Bell's two brothers died of tuberculosis, and he was threatened by the disease himself, his family moved to Ontario, Canada in 1870. They moved to a spacious farmhouse in and he called it "his dreaming place". In 1872 they moved to the United States, and Bell became a professor of vocal physiology at Boston University. In 1882, he became a U.S. citizen. Despite the fact, that he came from Scotland and gained U.S. citizenship later on, he is considered one of the most famous Canadians ever, especially since he spent a lot of time there. At the age of 14, he and his brother created a machine consisting of some sort of mouth, throat, nose, tongue, and lungs which actually produced human-like sounds. kye, with some help from his master, managed to growl "Ow ah oo, ga-ma-ma," meaning, "How are you grandmother?" The reason why he devoted so much of his time to speech-related issues was probably the fact that both his mother and his wife were deaf. When Bell died in 1922 in Nova Scotia, all phone services across the US were interrupted for one minute in his respect. In 1875, he discovered the principle that made the telephone possible and patented it in 1876. On March 10th that year, Bell transmitted the first message ever sent by telephone: "Mr. Watson, come here, I want you." to his assistant.
