Alcoholism is an illness involving the great deal of consumption of alcoholic beverages, including soft liquors such as beer and hard liquors such as vodka. Alcohol can plays a very disturbing and devastating role in one's life, affecting the person physically, emotionally, and biologically, and also affecting the family and friends. When alcohol is consistently present in everyday life, it affects the way people handle their responsibilities as well as how they handle themselves. I believe that the need for alcohol can cause a person to live a detrimental life.

Alcohol is known to cause aggression in those who consume it in excessive amounts and often leads to alcoholics tending to overreact aggressively to unpleasant situations. Alcohol has been thought of as an escape for those who have psychological or social problems. Most often, alcohol consumption becomes a way to unleash built-up negative feelings towards life, while others use alcohol to drown their anger, guilt, and depression. Therefore, alcoholics general state of mind is moody and uninhibited, leading to incr


eased chances of aggressive behaviour at the slightest provocation. The need for alcohol is also quite costly, and uses a major portion of a person's earnings. Statistics show that annually, Europe alone spends one hundred and five billion dollars on alcoholic drinks (Journal). In addition, alcohol can also cause a person to have increased problems at work such as trouble dealing with co-workers and difficultly performing his/her job adequately. As a result, these problems often cause one to lose his/her job, and thus, cause increased financial and emotion problems, especially for those who have families.

Alcoholism is a chronic, progressive, nearly incurable disease, and can exert a continuous psychological and social impact. Alcoholics place themselves at high risk for various accidents and damage their capacities to function effectively in daily life and perform their jobs. Furthermore, alcoholism threatens the welfare of families by destroying the relationships between loved ones.
