Hester Prynn

Laughter strikes your ears like the harsh wind of winters snow. All eyes are upon you. Their fingers point, their faces sneer at you with grinning smiles. You are in the spotlight, but you don't know why. Out of instinct you look down and realize you are without any clothes. The teacher scolds and yells shaking her head in disgust. Just before she is ready to send you to the office, you wake up. "Just a dream", you whisper to yourself. Then you lay your head back down and fall asleep to forget about it. Unfortunately, this was not a dream for Hester Prynne. It was and continues to be her reality. But she doesn't hide in the corner. In the book Scarlet Letter, there is a conflict of a great thematic significance in which Hester Prynne is both a heroin and an outcast.

Hester Prynne stood strong upon a scalfold for three hours. She was laughed, sneered, and looked down upon. Yet Hester stayed and took every word of their yelling. 'There is nothing that


Everyday people sin, whether it be a thought, a lie or a murder, we all sin. Hester Prynne knew this. She could see everyone's sin. Society hasn't changed since the time of the colonies; it becomes more hypocritical everyday. If you dress differently, or have an odd sense about you, or are incredibly intelligent, you will be treated differently, as an outcast. Hester had a rare and vibrant beauty with a sin attached. She is a true heroin, constantly attempting to redeem herself and getting nothing in return. Society made her suffer more so then needed, but Hester doesn't allow them to destroy her soul. Times may have changed, Technology may have changed, but society, society will never change.
