The Writing of Langston Hughes

Langston Hughes is a poet who has writing style that can directions. He has the ability to write complex poetry but keep the language simple enough so that anyone can understand what message he is trying to pass on to the reader. Langston Hughes also has the great ability to take a topic and spread it across multiple poems but make all the poems totally different. His poetry also has a beat to it that in some ways that is caused by his use of rhyme and style of writing.

Langston Hughes has a writing style that can go in many different directions. He can take a topic and write multiple poems with that same topic. What I noticed about that is that although they are on a similar topic the poems are totally different in meaning or in the story they are telling. I came across 5 poems all with the general thought or subject being dreams.

The first poem I read is entitled "Dreams". This poem is a very simply written poem that is straight and to the point. The message is stated in the first line of the poem, "Hold on to dreams". In this I think he is trying to give the reader the same message that most children get from their parents as their growing up. I think this could be like a

reinforcement of that message. At the end he compares life after dreams are gone to a frozen field. Its kind of a sad poem in a way to think of life as a frozen field. Its almost like this poem is saying that no matter how old you are or what your situation is never ever let go of your dreams because as long as you have your dreams than your life still has a purpose.
