Psychological Theories
1. Select the three of the seven schools of psychological theory: 1) compare and contrast the one theory you think is the most reasonable to the other two theories, and 2) explain the 'sociocultural perspective' as discussed in your text. After taking into consideration, the seven theories in Psychology today, I have found that the behavioral perspective seems to be the most feasible to me. Environmental factors are imperative when it comes to the reason for one's behavior, and is essential when determining the cause of behavior and modifying problem behavior. An additional theory, which I believe is closely similar to this perspective, is the psychoanalytical theory, which was founded upon the philosophy of Sigmund Freud. This theory takes into account the early childhood experiences and how that may affect behavior today. III. Which of the five senses would you least like to lose? Why? IV. What might you say or do that would keep a young person (your relative) from using drugs? The sense that I would least like to lose is my vision. I would consider this my most valuable sense. I believe that our world is full of many vibrant, beautiful things and that for no reason would I want to be without my sight. In actuality, the eyes are magnificent little machines; many parts play a role in enabling our brain to interpret images and light. The cornea performs the first step in our vision process; it bends the light rays inward and through the pupil, which regulates the amount of light that enters the lens. The lens focuses the image onto the retina, which is made of receptor cells that transmit impulses through the optic nerve, which then sends the images to the thalamus and on into the primary visual cortex. The ability to perceive color, depth, light and sharpness of images is due to the receptor cells-, called rods and cones that are located in the retina. Our body is indeed an amazing piece of work.
