From The begining of IBM
The company IBM is one of the largest computer and Software Company in the world. They did very well for me in our stock project. As there stock started at $80.40, although it only ended at $83.59 it had a high in the fifth week at $87.30. It all started over a century ago, 1896 to be exact with a man named Herman Hollerith. In 1896, Herman Hollerith, statistician at the US Census Bureau, formed the Tabulating Machine Company, after constructing his punch card and tabulating machine in 1890. In 1911 Hollerith's company merged with Computing Scale of America and International Time Recording Co. As they merged they decided on the name The Computing Tabulating-Recording Co., or C-T-R. In 1915 Thomas J. Watson became the big man around C-T-R as he took over the leadership of the company. His slogan was a simple one word, it was simply THINK! In 1924 the name changed again, but at this time know one knew that it would be known as a billion dollar company. The name was changed to International Business Machines Corp. or IBM. It's seems to me that no matter who the competitors are, IBM always out does them. In 1944 was there first breakthrough. IBM and Howard Aiken, a professor at Harvard University, invented the Mark 1. It took six years, but the automatic sequence controlled calculator was the first step to making computers. In 1952 IBM made history again when it created its first commercial computer. The 701 was a vacuum tube-type, but was improved by transistors in 1959. A major innovation was the use of magnetized plastic tape, read by a tape drive, it was the first use of modern tape in the computer history. In 1956 Tom Watson jr. took over his dads leading role in IBM. He was a US Army air corps-pilot in WW11. He continued his fa
