Reflective Analysis of a Simulated Interview

A detailed Summary of Reflective Analysis of a Simulated Interview

In the following reflective paper I will identify and explore the key experiences I encountered in my simulated in-class interview. I will also examine how these experiences contributed to my learning with respect to my preset learning goals. I will recognize my strengths and weaknesses in conducting the interview and offer constructive criticism regarding the latter. Finally, I will use what I have learned to develop new learning goals for myself and strategize about how I will accomplish them.

Having identified being an active listener as one of my learning goals in my preparatory planning for my in-class simulated interview, I began practicing my listening skills during prior sections of the interview, in which other classmates began the first two sections of the interview. Since there were five students interviewing that day, I felt a bit frustrated at the fact that I would be dependent on other peoples performance in the interview to conduct my own section of it. However, since I attempt to make the best

A final aspect of my learning, one that I did not identify prior to the interview as one of my goals but that I realize now as present during the interview, was that of working with as part of a team. As I mentioned earlier, I was quite frustrated by the fact that my portion of the interview was somewhat dependent upon the performance of the two students who were interviewing before me. I felt that if they conducted their portion of the interview in a way that I did not feel I could work with, I would be stuck when it came time for me to take over the interview. Although I was worried, I made a plan to take notes on the other portions of the interview so that I would be prepared when it was my turn. This helped me to focus and listen to the other sections of the interview, something I usually find difficult. It also helped me to realize that working with clients might require me to work with a group of social workers or other professionals in order to satisfy all of a client's needs.
