Aspirations and Limitations
A detailed Summary of Aspirations and Limitations
We all aspire to do things in our life. These things can be simple, achievable goals, or they can be dreams of being a rich and famous movie star or athlete. However, no matter how achievable or reasonable an aspiration may seem, there will almost always be limitations that will try to stop you from attaining your goal. This situation is used everywhere you look: in your life, in movies, in novels, etc. Two stories that contain dreams and barriers are A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry, and
Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck. Both of these brilliant stories contain several instances of a character or characters having their dreams suddenly blocked by an obstructive limitation. The characters from Of Mice and Men and A Raisin in the Sun share similar and different dreams, but all of them are confronted by obstacles.
The characters in the two stories share a similar aspiration and limitation. In the play A Raisin in the Sun, one of the aspirations of the family is to find a better home. The one they live in has cracking walls and roaches, as well as "furnishings that are typical and undistinguished and that have accommodated the living of too many people for too many years (Hansberry 23)" and "a table or a chai

In my first plate appearance, I stepped up and felt ready to crush anything that came by. I felt that way for 6 games before I heard the satisfying "Thock!" of a homerun. As soon as I hit it, I jumped up in excitement. I jogged quite slowly to enjoy my fifteen minutes of fame. I reached home plate to the applause of the 17 parents in attendance and the team. I was at the pinnacle of my "career." It's too bad it only lasted for that one day.
In A Raisin in the Sun, Walter encounters several problems while chasing his liquor store fantasy. The first one is that he originally has no money. His second is that when he gets money, it's stolen by his friend and there is no more liquor store. While this is a serious problem, it helps him to realize that he cannot single-handedly raise the family from poverty. "He finally came into his manhood... (Hansberry 151)" is what Mama Younger says of him afterward, and she is right. He begins to listen to the family and is not as concerned about getting rich as he is about the house. The family also encounters problems such as racism and poverty, but they begin to stick together as a family and move into the new house despite the possible threat of hate crimes.
The characters faced several problems while chasing their dreams. In Of Mice and Men, money was a problem in George and Lennie's plan to get a house. This was because they were not paid much for their labor and because Lennie always got them into trouble. Lennie also faced a problem, one with no solution. His goal was to be able to stay out of trouble. His mental disability kept him from remembering things, staying out of dilemmas, and more. While Lennie made no discoveries about himself, and actually did not change throughout the book, the reader finds that Geo
