ADVERTISING ON CHILDREN

In today's world, advertising is becoming more widespread. Its role is to increase market share and educate consumers about the new products .There are many ways of advertising which are television, radio, national press, local newspapers, magazines, cinemas and the most important one billboards. Nowadays, advertisers are likely to use billboards which are positioned near schools. Because, in the past, advertising seems to be a part of an adult's world, however, recently, advertisers have realized that children would become the most influenced group by advertising. This opinion also came up in producers' minds so that they started producing childrenswear and foods besides toys and games. As a result of this, as Anita Holmes says, " Marketing and advertising to children is on the rise." ( Conover) Thus, whole new advertising strategy was developed to attract young children into being young consumers.

Children are a Godsend to advertising which means children give a new life and potentiality to advertisers and marketers in order to create new advertisements and product. Probably, the most important reason why marketers and advertisers give

There are three major factors of selling goods to children. The first one is peer pressure which means advertising want to make children believe that when they don't wear a famous brand of jeans or clothes or watch a movie which was really successful, they will be unpopular and ignored by their friends. This pushes children to buy or spend money. (Zakin) Parents can avoid their children from peer pressure by using thirteen different ways. The most important one is to teach children how to make a decision. As Michelle Borba says "That way, they will know how to make wise and safe choices later on" (Zakin) Secondly, brand name is another factor. Because of the raising average age of a mother and having more money, parents like to spend money on their children's clothes. The main idea for this is "they want them to look as though they are their children, and not some extra imported from a BBC costume drama. (McCready) Last, but not least, pester power which is the pressure that children make on their parents is becoming more important. Parents are rushing around to get a toy or clothes which are basically demanded by their children. (Sutcliffe)
