Anti Affirmative Action

Recently, many people have had a problem with affirmative action. Its unfair rules and just the whole definition are outrageous. Affirmative action is the concept of creating equality for minorities by making all companies balance them out in the workplace. This leads to reverse discrimination, it doesn't always serve its purpose, and it is detrimental to the self-esteem of its recipients. This whole affirmative action concept should be taken out of this country immediately.

Most importantly, affirmative action creates reverse discrimination. Non-minority individuals are often denied of a job to make room for minorities. This concept of hiring creates reverse discrimination when employers are forced to hire one individual over another because of racial make up instead of qualifications. Recently, a policeman in Massachusetts was turned down for a position even though he received the highest score on the exam. A few days later, he retook the test and marked the box for African-American, instead of Caucasian, and got the job. This incident further proved that affirmative action forces employers to look for the most qualified minority worker, rather than looking for the most qualified worker in general. Recently, the Univ

In addition, affirmative action destroys self-esteem to the recipients of affirmative action. It sends a false picture to these people. The problem with affirmative action in college education is that the students are often placed in harder schools and classes... This is a good cause to the fact that the majority African-American and Hispanic students who enter any type of higher education don't graduate (Ravitch 112). How can someone feel like they have been helped greatly if this is putting a huge blemish on their record? The government isn't worried about how these people do in school as long as they're enrolled in the best college that they can get them into. The whole fact that these recipients are getting into any form of higher education is also a problem. "According to federal testing data, the average African-American student in 12th grade performs at the same level as the average white student in 8th grade"(Ravitch 112. These recipients are mislead to believe that they are good enough to be enrolled in elite universities, but when they arrive there, they are overwhelmed. They drop out of college, and need more help from affirmative action to get a job without a college diploma. This causes me to ask the question: "Why should the government give minorities the "upper-hand" in being accepted to better quality schools, when they can't even graduate? This causes whites to turn to lower quality schools, in which companies that don't turn to affirmative action would have a tough time hiring them.

Moreover, affirmative action just isn't getting the job done. In some cases, people who shoul
