Criminology is a major that forms the basis of all law related professions,as well as for graduate school, in terms of becoming a lawyer. Criminology is defined as a social science dealing with the nature, extent, and causes of crime ("Criminology",1986, pg. 329). Criminology is the start of understanding how laws works. I have personally been interested in law ever since I was younger. When it came time to think about college, I realized that majoring in criminology was a good foundation for the start of my future. I feel that criminology is not just of interest to someone that wants to pursue law, but actually deals with every ones day to day lives. Law is something that is all around, but often not thought about until a person is arrested or pulled over for a traffic violation. That is what makes law so important; the fact that it sets the guide lines for how our country is regulated and controlled, and protects our very rights as citizens of the United Criminology is actually a fairly easy major until about the junior year of college.
