A detailed Summary of Demographic Perspectives: Population Problems
Demographic Perspectives: Population Problems
The world simply said is "screwed". There are just many people on our planet, and with this problem there is a drastic effects on our environment and valuable natural resources. The main two reasons for the population problems are low mortality rates and high fertility rates. I feel that though it may be hard to imply on to people with different social norms, the government enforcing one child per couple might be a good way to deal with the overwhelming population.
Forests have a large part in the oxygen cycle that nourishes life on earth. They also protect the watersheds that support farming and influence climate and rainfall. They save the soil from erosion and are home to thousands of species, and forest peoples whose lives depend on them. The steady growth of the world's population has forced the destruction of forests, to be used for resources and make room for urban areas. Due to the overwhelming need for oil, another natural resource, accidents have been polluting and destroying the ocean, which is another important natural resource. Overwhelming use of cars on the planet is also having a devastating effect on the planet. The smog build up only destroys the ozone la

The other is as simple as sex education. This solution may seem worthless, but would slowly show results. If children were taught to have protected sex it might in theory reduce the fertility rate. Also if children were taught you should be financially secure before having babies the fertility rate might decrease.
There have been many suggestions made to decrease the population problem. In my opinion the best theory for this problem is the government passing a law that only allows a family to have two children and no more, a law such as the one already introduced in China. This may not seem fair but in countries such as these, it is necessary, to avoid such problems. The one child policy is generally denounced by a majority of world nations. Many countries feel that it is not right to restrict the number of children a person can have. They believe it is a person's freedom to choose how many kids they want. China hopes for their fertility rate to be one child per woman. Even though the policy is very controversial, China thinks this is what they need to do in order for their population growth to drop.
If things continue how things are going concerning population, we are going to encounter major problems in the future.
