OCD displayed in the movie as good as it gets

This was a very interesting movie, which showed a man's struggle with the disorder of OCD. In the beginning of the movie Jack Nicholson's symptoms were shown in a manner that mirrored OCD symptoms exactly. There were many symptoms toward the disorder that were shown throughout the video such as his routines of washing his hands and the locking of his doors. Even the way he went about his daily routines, such as walking over sidewalk cracks and bringing his own eating utensils to the restaurant. He was a very unique character. If one did not know that he had OCD they would see him as a very strange type of person with very extraordinary habits. For example, the people in the restaurant never liked him because of his treatment of others, the way he mannered himself and his disregard for others. What they didn't see was his hidden character, which was a very caring p


When they return from their trip Melvin let's Simon move in with him, after he loses his apartment, and gives him a much-needed boost in his life. Carol cannot hold in her feelings and neither can Melvin. With this his OCD becomes increasingly better. He even forgets to lock the doors at his apartment, which would have never happened before. She calls him up and they have a very emotional encounter. They finally express their true feelings and Melvin greatly benefits from this. While walking toward the end of the movie he doesn't step over the sidewalk cracks anymore. This is something he would have truly focused on earlier in is life. Carol and Simon had a very important effect on his life, and he made a difference in their lives as well. This movie shows how someone with a Psychological disorder can recover through everyday experiences. It also shows how much people need each other,
