When they return from their trip Melvin let's Simon move in with him, after he loses his apartment, and gives him a much-needed boost in his life. Carol cannot hold in her feelings and neither can Melvin. With this his OCD becomes increasingly better. He even forgets to lock the doors at his apartment, which would have never happened before. She calls him up and they have a very emotional encounter. They finally express their true feelings and Melvin greatly benefits from this.
