Perspectives on sanity and insanity have assisted to shape my knowledge of the meaning of change in Cosi. At the commencement of Cosi the playwright has manipulated Doug's vocabulary to incorporate vulgar language.

This shows that he has no social civility and therefore Nowra's language technique encourages the audience and Lewis and Nick to view him as 'crazy', and below them as if he is lower on the scale of humanity, which broadly represents all the mental patients.

These two texts encourage the reader to change their predetermined attitudes just as I have done. Stereotypically, I and society view the mentally ill as incapable and abnormal but in reality they have the ability to experience human emotions like pain and love, thus making them 'normal.' As a result of studying this issue I am aware of the labels society places on individuals and to not be afraid of their differences. Consequently these two texts are valuable as they helped me to broaden my understanding of change.

Both Nowra and Day challenge the reader to re-evaluate their views. In Day's novel it is apparent that society stereotypes gender roles and when Day challenges these in her novel by making a women have a man's characteristics it makes the reader change their perception of gender. Nowra presents the stereotype that women are more trustworthy than men but then challenges this when Lucy cheats on him. This demonstrates to the reader how we cannot be categorised; it is solely up to the individual to choose right or wrong. Both composers changed my perspectives also as now I am aware of gender stereotypes. Therefore the issue of what appears to be may not be the reality helped to broaden my comprehension of change.

Directly prior to this passage the persona is described as a hard drinker, promiscuous, untidy and capricious which automatically makes the reader think it is a male. When the above passage is read the reality is that it is actually a woman and thus, the readers perspective is altered as mine was.
