Every country in the world has some traditions, culture or innovations to be proud of. For example, China has famous procelain, Japan has many modern electric machines,..and so does Vietnam. "Ao dai" is one of very profound impressions about Vietnam. We are proud of "Ao Dai" because of its history, beauty, the significance of the attire upon Vietnamese women and all things that it shows for pure beauty. First, the description about "Ao Dai" is the reason for its expanding throughout the country in a very short time compared to hte country's history. About the origin, "Ao Dai" originated in Vietnam, meaning "long dress" is a traditional attire worn by Vietnamese women since the early 1900s and is still worn today. The very interesting thing that: like "Ao Dai", Vietnam is a long country on the Far East coast of Asia. This thing makes it become more respectable for Vietnamese people with a full love for the country. It appears to flatter every figure. Its body hugging top flows over wide trousers that brush the floor. Especially, comfort has not been forgotten at the expense of fashion and beauty. Although "Ao Dai" orginated in Vietnam, there were three important forms of cultures, which are responsible fo rthe development of the style within the attire. First and most influential culture was Chinese. The Chinese culture had influenced mostly on Vietnamese culture. China controlled Vietnam for about 1,000 years; consequently, the development of "Ao Dai" style is similar to Chinese dress. A few examples are the high neck collar, the alignment of the buttons (from center of the neck to the right and along the side), and the high slits on both sides of the leg. Not long after Vietnam declared it indepence from Chinese rule, the French invaded and took over. France ruled and controlled Vietnam. Along with their control, the French brought in many materials and trades in exchange for Vietnam's abundance of natural riches and raw materials. The third and last influence of the development of "Ao Dai" is from Japan. As we all know, Japan is known for its creativity in display of nature. The Japanese paint and design flowers, leaves, and butterflies on their clothing. Likewise, nature's art on clothing influences many designs on "Ao Dai" today.
