Indigenous Ways of Life and How They are Meaningful
The Indigenous people's belief is not just a religion; it is a way of life. This way of life seems to be one of harmony, peace, relaxation and enlightenment. Their worship does not consist of only rituals but is carried out in cleaning, hunting, gathering and plain old every day life. They worship the Great Spirit through everything they do, and view all aspects of life to be meaningful. The Great Spirit is said to have created the world, he created the Earth, the animals and every being or thing these were all made of the same matter. It is said that the Great Spirit lives within everything, from a simple rock, to the tallest mountain, to the most ferocious animal. I believe this to be because they are all made out of the same things and all carry a fragment of the Great Spirit himself. Every single thing on the Earth is spiritually interconnected due to being part of the Great Spirit. There is a great deal of respect towards hunting, before the hunt begins, forgiveness is asked of the animal spirit and a prayer is done. I find this to be an extremely meaningful aspect of life because respect for other beings is kept. The animal count is kept and watched by the animal spirit, and there will be consequences if hunting i
Nature is of great importance and is respected as well. Forgiveness is asked of the Great Spirit, when cutting down a tree or picking herbs. The intention of the action is let known to the spirit of the being. I find this aspect to be harmonious, loving and respectful, all carrying a great amount of meaning. All aspects of nature; the wind, storm, sea, thunder, rain, sunshine... are the Great Spirit communicating with the people. The Great Spirit lives in everything and everyone. The people are connected and are one with the land on which they live. The Earth is viewed as Mother and the Land, her body. The entire Earth is loved, cherished, and respected and well known; as if it were family this includes rocks, plants, the river and the sky. The land is not abused nor is it ignored, the people are as familiar with the land as they are with their tribe. Even their language is tied with the land changing from region to region. Stories of creation involve the land on which they live, I believe the reason for this is to make the story feel more realistic, and would carry more meaning if a story were involved with one's homeland. s abused. Animals are viewed as family and is loved and respected as family. The Medicine Man plays an important role in the belief system of Indigenous people. I believe that without the medicine man, the tribe would have less spiritual influence and may lack meaning in their lives. He is a spiritual guide to those in need, and a healer to those fallen ill. It is said that a Medicine Man may have many Guardian Spirits, if he does, he may even be stronger. The Medicine Man receives visions from the Great Spirit for Guidance on how to carry things out. He also has control over h
