Critique Fairy Tale Follies
The production I critiqued is "Fairy Tale Follies" by A. J. Jacobs, done by the high school students of Foothills Academy. Despite the fact that they had a small cast and crew, the production was quite enjoyable. The play itself did not really follow Aristotle's components of drama, as much as other plays might have. A weak plot contributed to this.A plot is the mechanics to tell a story. Since this play had many tales in it, there was no real settle plot. The overall plot was that the director did not a play to give to the audience. The director forgot to prepare a play for the audience, since he forgot the day the play was going to be put on. He solves this by having a narrator tell a story from a book of fairy tales, while he tosses actors and actresses to act out the scene. The play went through eight different fairy tales to help the director. This makes him feel that he produced a legit play. The disappointment about doing a play this way is that there was no real climax in the play, giving a sense of a flat plot. The protagonist in this play was the director. The protagonist is a person that takes the action of the plot. The only problem with the director being the protagonist is that he was not noble, he
I am very glad that I came to see this play. This may not be the best play in the world but it was definitely worth seeing. This comedic play was very enjoyable, so much that I think I will see their next play, which will be next year. The one real theme in the play was "not to procrastinate". The theme is an overall message that the play tries to give. Since the director hesitated to put on a production, he had to improvise. This could have been very disastrous, which would of ruin the director's career. Many characters would directly say, "maybe you should be more prepared next time." Also in another scene, a princess forgot to get her dress from the dry cleaners so they had to elongate the play. Now if she had her so-called "important" dress, the play would have been drastically shorter. Since she didn't have it, the director had to improvise what to do while they wait for the dress to get back. This shows that the play had a meaning, which is to help people understand that they should not procrastinate, but instead be prepared for any event in life. Music and diction acted as a great attribute to the play. Diction is the words that are used in the play, and music is the way to accent the words the characters use. The diction seems like normal talking in that the play, as in it did not have any complicated words, or any hidden meanings. The inflexions of some actors'/actresses' voices was remarkable. Sarah Homgren shows this music trait better than anyone else does. She was able to give a snobbish accent and hold words for a very long time. When she h
