Virtuous Viola

A detailed Summary of Virtuous Viola

Viola finds herself shipwrecked on the coast of Illyria. William Shakespeare, the author of Twelfth Night, explores and shows the emotion of love in detail. Shakespeare has also created a romantic comedy about three persistent characters that are trapped in a love triangle that seems continuous. One of the main characters is no other than virtuous Viola. During the play, Viola displays her intelligence as she is the first one to discover about the love triangle and is able to understand almost everything brought to her. As the play develops, Viola shows how well-spoken she is by the words that she uses to express herself and by using certain terms to impress even the highest level of class. In addition, maybe Viola's best character trait of all is her decency towards others as she demonstrates this throughout the play.

As the play unfolds, Viola presents herself to others as being a very clever and quick-witted person. Viola's intelligence is present early on in the play as she, along with the help of the Sea Captain, decides to come up with a plan to disguise her as a man. This proves how intelligent she is since she is able to fool everyone with her disguise throughout the play. A fool is considered a very intelligent person s

Throughout the play, Viola seems to be a very decent and caring woman that always puts her feelings and herself second to others. This trait is present at the beginning of the play when Viola and the Captain survive the shipwreck together and meet for the first time. This means that for telling her all that he knows about her brother's whereabouts, she, in return, will him this money as a token of her appreciation for his help. A second example of Viola being decent is when she meets Antonio for the first time. As the police are taking him away, he turns to who he thinks is Sebastian and cries out for help. After Viola denies knowing him, she turns around and offers all the money that she has to someone who she has never even met in her life before. Lastly, Viola portrays her decency when all she can think about is her brother being lost at sea after she is shipwrecked. This strongly shows how decent she really is because instead of worrying about herself and how she is going to survive the shipwreck, she is more concerned in finding her brother and putting his safety first.

Viola is extremely articulate. In face, she states to the captain at the beginning of the play, that she is able to speak to people, like Orsino, in many sorts of music meaning she would be of good service to him. One example of Viola being well-spoken or articulate is when she procla
