Should Australia become involved in the situation with Sadda
Should Australia become involved in the situation with Saddam Hussein? To answer this question, one must look into what started all this talk of war, September the eleventh, a time of all our lives we shall never forget, the day when the United States was attacked at the hands of the Al Quaida terrorist network. George Bush was that day pushed into a conflict he didn't start, mastermind Osama Bin Laden underestimated the retort of the Americans, the Taliban regime of Afghanistan was decimated by the Americans bombers. Osama Bin Laden was once an ally of the Americans, during the Afghanistan conflict between the Soviets and the Mu Jahudin, the Afghan resistance, the Americans gave many weapons including Stinger missiles to the Mu Jahudin, now the Taliban. A similar case is with Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, weapons and motivation were given to the Iraqis from America. A famous quote which describes both these cases, "He may be a son of a bitch, but hes our son of a bitch" - this shows how the Americans use other countries for their own gain. "You've got a 200 pound Rottweiler, now he loves you, its his job to protect you, but if he was to ever bite you, you put him down" is another famous quote, the
I believe that Saddam Hussein is a menace, he is getting to old, (nearly 70) and we cant simply wait for him to die, he has his second in charge and two sons who will do as he has done. The man who never sleeps in the same bed twice maintains six huge palaces but cant sleep in them for fear of being captured by a black operations raid, Saddam Hussein. Saddam Hussein, he has no nuclear weapons but his use of chemical and biological warfare weapons make him a 'loose cannon' and while his country starves while he builds up his military. Saddam Hussein controls no Intercontinental bombers, no Intercontinental missile systems, so one may ask, why does America wish to go to war with them? Iraq is no threat to the United States, however, to the South and Southeast of Iraq lay the two of the oil super powers in the world, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Saudi Arabia was the base of operations for all attacks during the Gulf War by the Allies. Two thousand US marines and two battalions of Anti-Aircraft/Anti-Missile Artillery lie on the Saudi-Iraqi border, Saudi Arabia has been under constant attack by Saddam Hussein since they allowed the Allies to use the country as their military stronghold. 71.5% of the females surveyed believed we shouldn't have committed, and the other 28% were agreeing to the decision by John Howard or believed only on a calculated risk basis.
