Mice and Men
Imagine running from city to city, living in despair, but still believing that dreams do come true to those who wait. Well, that happened to two middle-aged men, Lennie and George in the story "Of Mice and Men" by John Stienbeck. They both have a dream to own an acre of land and a shack they can call their own, until disaster strikes. The killing of Lennie and of Candy's dog were both mercy killings because they were both going to be saved from further pain and torment. The killing of Lennie associates with him being mentally and socially challenged. He doesn't have a mental disability, he's just feebleminded. It is like he has the body of a thirty-five year old man, with the mind of a child. He does what he wants and doesn't think twice. One significant thing about Lennie, is he absolutely loves to pet and touch soft things such as silky hair, small animals fur, and velvet. Wanting to touch these things end up getting Lennie in trouble through out the story. For example
Through out this story love, friendship, suspense, and tragedy was portrayed. The friendships of George and Lennie, the love of a friend, and the price of mistakes. John Stienbeck's " Of Mice and Men" entices all of those feelings. The killing of Lennie and of Candy's dog was that they were both going to be saved from further pain and torment. I feel George shot Lennie because he loved him and wanted to end his suffering. George showed his love for Lennie in many ways through out the story. At the beginning of the story and/or movie, George 's love and concern is shown simply by the fact that he is taking care of Lennie because his Aunt Clara died. Anybody could see that George shows his love by the way he tells Lennie the story of " How it's gonna be," living in the house so Lennie can tend the rabbit's. (George knows Lennie gets a kick out of that story and proves his love that way.) George shows that he cares by always telling Lennie what to stay away from so he do
