A chain of rugged mountains divides Costa Rica, which is an extended part of the Andes-Sierra Madre chain. Teodorico Quiros was named dean of faculty of Fine Arts Department of Costa Rica. Quiros was an intense painter, an architect, and art historian. He was an unbelievable expert at all of his trades. Teodorico Quiros died on June 27, l977 after receiving the Premio Magon, which is the country's most prized and important award. Another artist that stands out is Francisco Amighetti. He was born in San Jose just like Quiros. Amighetti is a very graphic artist with truly many great publications. Most of his crafts are done in plastics and other industrial materials. Amighetti is also a magnificent poet with many great poems. He has won many awards from his country and has been invited onto many art shows. The amazing Francisco Amighetti is that he still lives to this day. On September 3, l999, Costa Rica and Chile started negotiations of a free trade agreement. The nations international trades surpassed fifty-nine million United States dollar. The two countries are also conversing with Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. On September 7, l999, Costa Rica and Spain signed a cooperation agreement over agricultural and food technologies. Now Costa Rica and Spain will intensify the cooperation and trade of natural resources and will also exchange technological information on agriculture. On September 27, l999, Cost Rica opened a council in Egypt to improve the nation's relationship with the Arab religion after a dispute fifteen years ago by the former president Don Pepe. Conquest of Costa Rica by Spain began in 1563 with the founding of Cartago. Many colonists were landowners with not too much income because of the lack of jobs.
