Territorial Behaviour

"Territorial Behaviour" by Desmond Morris is an essay in which he breaks down human territory into three categories: Tribal, Family, and Personal. He argues that the instinctive territorial behaviour possessed by humans solves more problems than it creates. His essay is a very well thought out one. He presents his argument very well, and gives enough evidence to support it. After reading his essay, I was satisfied with it. It did not leave me unclear about his intentions or the point he was attempting to get across.

This essay is excerpted from a piece called "Manwatching", and is a smaller part of a bigger project. It is an informal essay. It is a very clean, polished piece of work. Mechanically, it is very sound. Morris begins by explaining the three sub


The only other flaw I see in his essay is the length. It is quite a wordy essay. His essay is spread over five pages and twenty-two paragraphs. I think he could've condensed his essay and made it a little more brief. Long essays tend to bore a reader and make them lose focus or attention. Yet overall, his essay is a very good one. Morris gives sufficient evidence to enforce his main idea, and presents it in a very well organized, matter of fact manner.

Essays are more sound when good examples are presented. It gives the reader something that they can relate to. Morris uses many appropriate examples in his writing. Every idea he presents is accommodated with a real life example. His examples are detailed and given in depth. They also tie in
