Crazy/Beautiful movie review
Crazy/Beautiful is a modern day Romeo and Juliet love story, featuring two people from the opposite sides of the track. Kirsten Dunst, usually seen starring in comedy roles like in the films Dick and Bring it On, stars in this heavy drama, as an emotionally troubled daughter of a rich but liberal Southern California congressman, who is played by Bruce Davison. Nicole lives in a Pacific mansion in L.A., and goes to school in a high-class, ultra trendy public high school. One day, Nicole meets Carlos, played by Jay Hernandez, who is a high-achieving, clean-cut, straight-A, Mexican-American student and athlete who dreams of going to the U.S. Naval Academy and has to bus to school from his East L.A. residence two hours every day. Nicole takes on the "crazy" of the movie title, and Carlos the "beautiful." The movie rolls along, as Nicole and Carlos become more and more attached, and she begins to drag him down with her self-destructive ways. There are many elements of this film, which can be evaluated, the soundtrack, the actors, the characters themselves, the themes, who the movie is aimed towards, and even the lighting of the film. The soundtrack of this movie is non-stop. The specific songs chosen to be played did m
The primary actors in this movie do a great job of portraying teens in nearly impossible situations. Carlos has to deal with the struggle of raising himself out of a continuing cycle of poverty, constantly worrying about his school, and future. On the other hand, Nicole has to cope with her low self esteem, which leads to her destructive alcohol and drug abuse. Both Kirsten Dunst, and Jay Hernandez do a good job of showing the determination and ambition of these two hopelessly in love teens, in somewhat embellished scenarios. For example, when Dunst was completely drunk and the police just took her home, without any repercussions. Dunst fully embodies her character with a passion that is as compelling as believable. The acting is definitely a plus in this movie, shown through by Dunst, who carries the leading role, and her supporting actors, Hernandez and Davison. They make due with the weak script they are given to work with. They make due with the weak script they are given to work with. The script in this movie was somewhat lacking. The story itself was not original, and not even realistic. The words were plain and boring. It was unbelievable, which was hard to watch. Like I said before, the acting is the only thing that saved this movie, from total failure. Crazy/Beautiful does contain some valuable themes to be taken away from the film, along with an exaggerated depiction of today's te
