William Faulkner said "The only thing worth writing about is the human heart in conflict with itself." I agree with this statement because self conflict is the most difficult type of conflict to resolve; one has to be his/her own mediator while fighting two battles at the same time. Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night gives perfect examples of this through Mary Tyrone's conflict with being a morphine adict and a very unhappy wife. O'Neill uses irony to portray the disharmonic struggles she goes through.

Mary Tyrone is a mother of two and ironically a morphine addict as well.
