Changing the World One Classroom at a Time

A detailed Summary of Changing the World One Classroom at a Time

There are many reasons to improve the school systems of the State of Nebraska. It all begins with the need to better educate our students. Teachers and parents want what is best for their students. However, each group has a tendency to keep their own interests in mind when it comes to the betterment of the students we are educating. To improve the school systems and the education of the students, the schools must keep two areas in mind. First, the requirements of the students need to be met. This includes nature vs. nurture, basic needs and the variety of intelligences each child has. Secondly, what is best for society needs to be apparent in the classroom and in the school. This is important because the students we are teaching are tomorrow's leaders and thinkers. They need to be aware of what is around them and what has happened in the past and what they can do to improve society.

When it comes to the needs of the students many ideas come to mind. Those ideas include, nature vs. nurture, the basic needs of the students, and the multiple intelligences that each child may have. Nature is the biological make-up of each person. If the genetic material creates a student who develops at a faster pace than other students that person

Vygotsky believes that society teaches the young and in turn the youth teach society. This society is something that needs to be protected and carried on to the next generation. It is the schools role to uphold or change the society to meet the needs of the students and a changing social order. Schools systems needs to be open to ideas and changes in society, so that it can change with the students. A friend of mine once stated, "It isn't students that are changing, it is society." By allowing the sharing of ideas, the freedom to make and pass judgment on particular issues such as the role of the government, decisions that affect the students and the cultural differences, the school's would allow the students to develop into the society the schools are preparing the students to create and live in.

may need to be treated differently than others. For example, when female students mature at a faster rate than the males they are going through some extreme changes in their lives and need to be treated differently enough to give breathing room for the changes in their lives. It is important to keep rules and regulations that same, but they need to be flexible enough to allow for biological changes in the students. At the same time, the male students are going through puberty and are challenging each other for spots on the athletic team, in the classroom, for the affection of the opposite sex and they need to be treated differently because of the biological changes going on in their lives.
