A Critizue of an Advertisement

Advertisement is a part of everyday life. It is seen and heard all around the world at all times. Also it comes to us in many different forms. Advertisements can be seen in magazines and newspapers and on billboards and television. They can be heard on the radio or television. Sometimes ads may be deceitful, but they are not always illegitimate or deceptive. If every person took the time to think about the advertisements that they see or hear he or she would be able to distinguish whether and ad is legitimate or not.

This ad for Nicole nail lacquer is very colorful. It catches the eye. Pictured in the ad are twelve different bottles of nail polish. The picture is taken very close to the bottles so a person can see the details printed on the labels of the nail polish bottles. On these labels it reads, "Lacquer Pour Les Ongles" (polish for nails) on the first line. Under the first line in bold letters is "Nicole," the product's name. Next, the label reads "Colors with a conscience." The last thing that is said on the label is .5 FL. OZ-15ml. At the top of the ad inn large bold print letters it says, "because on prom night, your dress shouldn't get all the attention." Underneath the bottles of na


il polish are the brand name, "Nicole" and the logo, which is colors with a conscience. This is written in purple ink. Below the logo it says "Nicole's Spring Mania Collection." The last words on the article read, "each bottle of Nicole Nail Lacquer helps support: Rock the Vote, Starbright Foundation, American Oceans Campaign, Gilda's Club."

All people have different interests and different organizations, which they support. The Nicole Corporation has chosen to support a variety of organizations that work to change the world in a variety of ways. The organizations may not directly effect the consumer of the product, but eventually they may need help from one of these organizations, or they will someday be effected by the organization.

The organizations that "Nicole" promotes include The Starbright Foundation, Rock the Vote, American Oceans Campaign (AOC), and Gilda's Club. The Starbright Foundation is a one of a kind establishment, which helps hospitalized children and their families. The staff of Starbright includes medical and psychological professionals who work to better a child's emotional well being. ("Colors with a Conscience") Co-chairmen of the Starbright Foundation include director Steven Speilberg and General Norman Schwarzkorf. ("Colors with a Conscience") Rock the Vote is a campaign geared toward getting young voters to the polls. During the 1992 presidential election Rock the Vote put on a campaign called "Get Out the Vote." ("Colors with a Conscience") This campaign led to the first increase in youth participation since the law changed in 1972 to give 18-21 year olds the right to vote.
