A New Revolution
Fishing among other things, is a very simple sport that consists of mainly one thing, which is having fun. Throughout the years, many people such as Ernest Hemingway and Thomas Scott have revolutionized it. These men wrote pertaining to fishing and how it should be and how it really was. Many more ideas have risen since their day, such as distinct types of graphite rods and GPS systems. To understand fishing you must first know the terminology. "Rod and reel" is self-explanatory but such terms as "GPS and WAAS" are not. They are both mapping devices that tell fishermen where their exact location is. "Fishing is changing" (Principles 1). The art of fishing has matured the current world by advancing ahead in the new millennium. In recent years, the purpose of anglers has turned from catch and kill to catch and release. Since this extreme change has gone into effect millions of fish have been spared and the populations are exploding. This can only mean good things to us. All that needs to be done is get the length of the fish, its girth, and some good photos of it, that is if you still want to catch all the fish you want. " This type of mount looks authentic and will last a lot longer than a skin mount
Along with the new equipment come new businesses that help make fishing a multi-billion dollar industry. They are noted for saving the sea lions in Alaska and helping ban gillnets. Conservation organizations are the leading moneymakers in fishing. The American Oceans campaign is a non-profit organization with the goal of keeping the ocean clean and preventing natural disasters from happening. One of the organizations we have in Texas is the CCA, the Coastal Conservation Association. They are dedicated to the conservation of marine resources and currently have 78 thousand members. Their most current project is the restoration of redfish populations all along the gulf coast and enforcing Marine Fishing could not have revolutionized if the gear used for the sport had stayed the same. The days when you could only go out as far as you could see the land is over. GPS now allows anglers to go anywhere in the world and still know where they are. GPS, which stands for Global Positioning Systems, uses an array of satellites to locate your exact spot and give you directions on how to get to a certain spot and back. It is a necessity on all boats if they plan on going anyplace they don't know (Brain & Harris 1). Livewells have added the modern fishermen the chance to use live bait wherever he wants. A livewell uses a multitude of pumps and hoses to keep a continuos stream of oxygen in the water. Sometimes an oxygen tank is used to pump pure oxygen into the baitfish. A very important aspect of catch and release was the invention of the circle hook. It is a simple concept that only hooks a fish in the corner of the mouth, reducing the risk of hurting a fish. The hook is in the shape of a circle and will not hurt the fish. The rod and reel have progressed in the past years too. The new ultra light, ultra sensitive graphite rods are easier to make and better to fish with. The newest craze is the hextex rods which was released January 2002. Instead of being cylindrical like most rods its in the shape of a hexagon and has a honey comb pattern inside of it. If an angler wants to add a special touch they could invest in a custom rod. The art of custom rod building has exploded into a million-dollar industry. It involves wrapping thread around a blank and then epoxing, making it waterproof. The saltwater is a boats idea of hell. It will corrode and eat away at a boat until there is nothing left. But thanks to a little research there has been a new line of boats released especially for saltwater that can resist this corrosion and take the salt. They have special electronics that allow them to function in even the saltiest water. To go along with a new boat is new safety equipment. The newest in PFD's (personal floatation device) are equipped with a flashing light, whistle, backrest, and distress signal. Tackle orga
