Adderall is a prescription drug. It is a stimulant that acts on the central nervous system. Adderall is an amphetamine used to treat ADD (attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Adderall and Ritalin are the two drugs used to treat ADD or ADHD.

The effects of Adderall can be felt after a couple of doeses or even after the first dose. Maximum benefit of the drug is achieved three to four weeks.

Some rare side effects of Adderall are an irregular heartbeat, hair loss, decreased blood cell count, psychosis, anemia and rashes. Adderall may cause some people to feel dizzy and have a false sense of well-being. It is a possibility that one could feel light headed and less alert.

There are many medicines used to treat ADD and ADHD, another common one is Ritalin. In 1994, doctors stated that they preferred Adderall to Ritalin three to one. Adderall's effects last eight to ten hours usually only requiring one dose per day compared to a four hour drug requiring two to three doses of Ritalin.
