They stole a ship and headed out to sea. Trent soon caught up with them. Suddenly, a whirlpool appeared that sucked Trent, Bink, and Fanchon down and under the shield.

He continued his journey, but on the wrong side of the Chasm. He traveled along side it and tried to go around it. When he got to the end of it, the ground disappeared and he fell into water. The next thing he knew, he was on the Sorceress Iris's island. She fed him and took care of him. But when Bink realized that she wanted his help in taking over Xanth, he left.

He shamefully returned home. Having no magical talent to show to the king, he was exiled from Xanth. He immediately set out for the Isthmus to cross over to the Mundane world. When he arrived, he crossed through the shield that protected Xanth from the Mundane world, never to return.
