"A Tale of Two Cities" is written by Charles Dickens and it takes place in France and England during the troubled times of the French Revolution. most of the story happens in Paris, France. It is a story about love and tragedy and making the ultimate sacrifice for the ones you love. Its also a story about change and revolution and is a historically accurate, but fictitious account about the events of a real place during a real emergency. "A Tale of Two Cities" is a great book on historical events told through the lives of fictitious, but entertaining characters.

The hot spot of the French revolutionists, mostly takes place in a wine shop in Paris. The action in the book takes place in many parts of Paris such as the Bastille, Tellsonīs Bank, the home of the Manettes and largely in the streets of Paris (Charles Dickens 76). These places help introduce many characters into the story. One of the main characters, Madame Theresa Defrage, is a major antagonist. Through out the story, she weaves shrouds for the intended victims of the revolution. Charles Darnay, one of the people Mrs. Defarge is seeking revenge on, is constantly being put on the stand and wants no part of his own lineage. He is a protagonist who often gets arrested and

All in all though, "A Tale of Two Cities" is a story about fictitious people who's lives you become lost in, while taking place in a real, history-changing time and place. The characters must struggle against something very real, which makes them so believable and real in a way. That's also the reason you become so emotionally attached to what happens to them as the revolution unfold.

These are the characters that give the interesting and dramatic plot to the story. Carton is deeply in love with Lucie and is always telling her that he loves her so much that he would do anything for her but Lucie ends up marring Darnay, a few days after their marriage when they were on their honeymoon, Dr. Manette has a fall back and cobbles shoes for nine straight days. France's citizens arm themselves and led by the Defarges start the revolution by riding to the Bastille. Shortly before they start the revolution, the Marquis runs over a child in the street of Paris (Cody 247). The child's father, Gaspard who is part of the revolution murders Marquis. Three years later Darnay is called back to Paris to help his friend Gabelle, when Darnay was walking on the street of Paris he is arrested for being an enemy of the state. Lucie and her father Dr. Manette go to Paris to see if they can be of any help to Darnay. Darnay is released from prison but the same day he is re-arrested on charges set forth by the Defrages and one other unknown person. The next day Darnay is sent to trial and is convicted and sentence to death. This is when the hero comes and finds out in which prison he is incarcerated, he goes and drugs Darnay, while Darnay was drugged, Carton switches place with Darnay (Guerard 135).
