In A Dry White Season freedom is portrayed as two worlds far different from each other, a private world blind to the hardships of others and a confined world of grief and agony. Mr. Benoit is seeing how blind one world is to the other and attempts to make a difference for those who are suffering and neglected. He is constantly forced to forget about the people he wants to help both by the police and his wife.

The white people of South Africa live in a fantasy world far from the reality of the townships where thousands are suffering. They consider them selves proper, and high class. Mr. Benoit wants to show that they cannot consider themselves proper or high-class when so many
