Abortion
I'm writing about abortion, the rights, the innocent babies, and the society we live in. There are a few more important things issues in this country today than abortion. Combine a society that is partially governed by religion with scientifically uneducated community and the fever of catchy slogans and both sides and this divisiveness is almost acceptable. Given the current advances in science, this is only likely to get worse. All of the rhetoric around abortion has confused the real issue. In essence abortion is a medical procedure with ethical implications. Any argument on the legality of abortion that is based on different ethical values is doomed to come to a standstill. The key issue of debate on abortion involves the meaning of what it is to be alive. This is a question that politicians and scientists have tried to answer often, but one that can easily be answered by scientists. Life does not begin at birth, conception, or any time in between. Life is a perpetual process that has evolved since the first humans appeared on earth. It is meaningless to say that a fertilized egg is any more alive and conscious than an unfertilized one. The real issue is the expendability of human life. It would be di
fficult for one to argue that an unfertilized egg should be preserved as a precious life. It would be equally difficult for someone to say that it is perfectly acceptable to kill an unborn baby that is fully developed and deliverable. The ethics debate lies somewhere in between. So when does an egg become something more? Well I believe that scientifically speaking, even after the baby is born, it is still not knowledgeable as a full-grown animal like a cow, which is considered to be fully expandable to humans. If we decide to apply the same standards, then are we not bound to make killing even newborns perfectly legal? Well I believe that there is where science ends and ethics begins. Killing some other living thing, under almost all our ethical system is considered very bad, and wrong. Generally the more aware and intelligent we consider the living thing to be, the more wrong that killing may be. I think that most of us believe that life is considered to be very precious for a lot of reasons. It is because all of us are very intelligent, civilized, agricultural, and also several other attributes that we are different from animals in a scientific way. Some people say that because we communicate very well, some say that it is becaus4e we are very creative, and because we use tools. But regardless of your own definition, there are none exceptional humans as well as exceptional monkeys that blur these distinctions. We as humans need to decide for ourselves when and where is a human valuable or not valuable. I think that we are all valuable to the world and all deserve to live, no matter the situation. But it just depends on each person and they're believes. I think that now as I write, different cultures, religions, and ethical standards are often in conflict. Also people, who now have more power as individuals than ever before, do not always have the maturity that may be required to use their power without infringing on rights of others. Until that moment comes, I think that we must rely on set rules that every person has and on governmental enforcement in order to survive in this world. So when is killing justified? Commonly when the needs of humans
