Abortion

Many people have pondered upon the meaning of abortion. The argument being that every child born should be wanted, and others who believe every child conceived should be born. This has been a controversial topic for many years. However, I strongly disagree with legalization of abortion. In America, Thomas Jefferson stated the most fundamental principle of our developing nation when he wrote in the nations first document, the Declaration of Independence, that we were "created equal" and "endowed...with certain unalienable rights" and that among these rights was "life." Since the beginning of time, we have striven as a nation to expand basic human rights for all citizens. Furthermore, there is still much to be done to fully improve this principle. As we continue to strive to achieve human rights, we must also defend it against those who believe that they can expand their own rights by destroying the rights of others. Babies, as people, merit the full protection of the law. Therefore, abortion should be illegal.

Today we have a greater concern, the concern of what is considered life. The life of a baby begins long before he or she is born. Dr. Micheline M. Mathews, from the Harvard Medical School gave a confi

res the unborn child's right to his or her body. Never, in modern times has the state granted one citizen the right to have another killed in order to solve their personal, social, or even economic problems. The embryo is it's own being that should have it's own rights and nevertheless be protected by the law.

After all the research I have done while researching the concerns of an unborn child, has strongly influenced my stance against abortion. I dare all of you to really ask yourselves, would you have wanted to be aborted as a child? Would you have wanted your life to be cut, before you were given the chance to breath on your own? When I was conceived, no one could ask me if I valued my life. Therefore, I wouldn't have had my right to live. If your were aborted your would not have had the chance to ask for your life. Life is a precious thing that no one should be deprived of its wonderful virtues. Abortion is murder and we should strive to put an end to it. In conclusion, the 1994 statistics reported in the USA Today, "that there have been more than 32.5 million abortions in the twenty one years since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized unrestricted abortion on January 22, 1973." These are only some of the many concerns that people are faced with daily when deciding whether their life is more valuable than another's.

With the growing awareness of the psychological effect that abortion has on women, researchers have identified a pattern of psychological problems known as Post Abortion Syndrome (PAS). Women suffering PAS may experience drug and alcohol abuse, personal relationship disorders, sexual dysfunction, repeated abortions, communication difficulties, damaged self-esteem, and even attempt suicide. Post-Abortion Syndrome seem s to be a type of denial, which may last for
