Abortion

It is nearly impossible to find someone who does not have an opinion on the issue of abortion, and usually his or her opinion is very strong. When people debate on the issue of abortion they become frustrated, and tend to become even more committed to their position, of pro-life or pro-choice. Both sides of the issue make good cases; an unwanted child is a horrible thing and yet the thought of terminating something that, if left to nature, would become a person is a thought not even the hardest heart could bear to think about. So where is the argument? Those who are pro-choice say that the decision of aborting an unwanted child should be left to the mother; otherwise it is an infringement of her rights. On the other hand, pro-lifers would say that abortion is murder of an unborn child and that it is infringing upon the rights of that child. Still, if one studied all aspects of abortion, such as the history of abortion in the United States, the way a fetus develops, how ab!

ortion affects the mother, religion, and laws dealing with abortion, he or she would find that, in fact, abortion is murder.

The definition of abortion in the 1995 edition of the Encyclopedia is the termination of a pregnancy by loss or destruction of a

By law a woman has up to her fourth month in pregnancy to get an abortion; in rare cases she can abort her pregnancy in the fifth month. Some women are unaware how developed the fetus is at this time; if they did know, most would never choose to have the procedure done. This is because, the fetus at four months is quite developed and can move its formed limbs allowing it to kick its legs, turn its feet, curl its toes, make fists, suck its thumbs, turn its head, open and shut its mouth, press its lips together, make complex facial expressions, and even smile. Also at four months an unborn child can urinate and breathe, if allowed air. The sex organs are apparent, the heart pulsates, brain waves can be recorded, fingerprints are evident, he or she has a liver that produces blood cells, the stomach produces digestive fluids, and the kidneys begin to function as well. However, there is one thing that is very disturbing in the growth and development of a fetus, which is that by four months the fetus is very sensitive to touch. This fact is disturbing because if he or she is sensitive to touch while in the womb, he or she has to feel something during the abortion procedure. Whether or not the fetus feels pain during an abortion is another strongly debated issue. But, it is evident that at four months the unborn child is a person and can feel something, therefore giving yet another reason why abortion should be considered murder and deemed illegal.

So far Roe vs. Wade has murdered over thirty million innocent babies; it continues to take an estimated one and a half million each year. These children do not ask to be given life, but they are given it anyway because of the irresponsibility of his or her parents. So what right does a mother have to take the life of her unborn child away? In the "Ten Commandments", from the Bible, the sixth commandment states that thou shall not commit murder. When a mother chooses to abort her pregnancy, at any time, she is murdering her unborn child; there is no right for a mother to do such a thing simply because the baby is growing inside of her womb. If after researching all aspects of abortion, such as its history, how the fetus develops, how it affects the mother, religion, and laws dealing with abortion and one still does not see that the practice should be illegal and considered murder, he or she did not pay attention or simply does not care. Innocent children are being slaughtered everyday. According to reports from the Center for Disease Control, eight thousand, eight hundred and sixty-two babies the same age or older than Baby J, from the story of the abortion gone wrong, were aborted in 1995. Most of the babies did not take as long to pass as Baby J, but some felt the blade of the knife right before the last beat of their heart. Abortion is inhumane and murder; it should be illegal.

The Bible never mentions the word "abortion". As a result, those who are pro-choice say that the book never forbids the practice. However, if one reads certain passages from the book, he or she will see that God does forbid abortion, just not in direct words. People should not try and change the mean
