Ever since the Supreme Court's ruling of Roe v. Wade in 1973, there has been an ongoing battle between the pro-life and pro-choice issue. This ruling declared that it is a woman's private act if she chooses to have an abortion or not, and that the government cannot have such control as to decide if an abortion should be preformed. This procedure is growing more and more popular everyday. If one types the word "abortion" into an Internet search engine, one may find over 337 sites on this case. One typical heading was "Roe v. Wade 25 Years of Celebration for the Right to Choose;" however it is not a celebration for millions of unborn babies-it is a tragedy. Abortion endangers the lives of pro-abortionists, the life of the mother both physically and psychologically, and it also leads many to black market of illegal clinics which not only takes advantage of the governmental system, but also of the poor people who can not go to the legal clinics. Until there is another ruling like Roe v. Wade, battle will continue between the anti-abortion and the pro-choice debate. Even though the abortion and death rate statistics are unknown for the years prior to the ruling due to their illegality of abortion, the figures for today's rates are growing rapidly. The end to this ongoing cycle seems far off and the reason is because the people of the United States of America have let this problem escalate beyond imagination; therefore. people should face the consequences of abortion. A vacuum (suction) machine is used to remove the tissues (fetus and placenta) from the uterus. Medicines such as oxytocin are sometimes given to cause the uterine muscles to contract and reduce the pain, most of the methods are related to the labor and birth process itself (Adam 2), but certainly the method of abortion that will be used is depending on the physician and his personal preference and skill and the policies of the hospital, but the most important factor is the length of the pregnancy and the size of the fetus (Horvitz 213). According to some mothers, the worst part of having an abortion is the emotional pain that it brings once it is done. Women end up with a feeling of regret for the rest of their lives.
