Albert Bandura
A detailed Summary of Albert Bandura
Albert Bandura based his theory on observasional learning and modeling behavior. Behaviorism is the study that Bandura was doing. For example the mental. Standard procedure is to manipulate one variable, and then measure its effects on another. All this is is a theory of personality that says that one's environment causes one's behavior. Bandura found this a bit too simple for the cases he was observing. He suggested that the environment causes behavior and behavior causes environment as well. The world and a person's behavior cause each others behavior.
Bandura did hundreds of studies. He was responsible for the bobo doll studies. He made of a young woman, beating up a bobo The woman would punch the clown. She kicked it, sat on it, hit with a little hammer, and so on, shouting various aggressive phrases. Bandura showed his film to groups of kindergartners who, as you might predict, liked it a lot. They then were let out to play. In the play room, of course, were several observers, a brand new bobo doll, and a few little hammers.
The observers saw a lot of little kids beating the daylights out of the bobo doll. They punched it and shouted at it kicked it, sat on it, hit it with the little hammers.. In other words,

There are certain steps in the modeling process. One of them ,for example, is attention. If a model has bright colors or is attractive we might pay more attention to it. Or if the model seems more like yourself you will pay attention. Television would be a good example because it can play a major role in how kids interpret things. Children or teens might learn on TV the side effects of smoking and can later turn down a cigarette when with their peers. If they see a famous person or role model turning down a cigarette they will too. If a Michael Jordan versed a smoker in a game, and the smoker just keeps coughing causing him to lose, the child will want to not smoke like Jordan, hence play like a pro. This observation effect can later save a person's life from dying of lung cancer. There is another example to which this theory will come into play. Many people may imitate the bad effects of observational learning. Children who are abused often grow up to be abusers themselves. Children see parents who are drunk and do drugs often follow the same track themselves. They learn what they observe
The therapy Bandura is most famous for is modeling therapy. The theory is that, if you can get someone with a psychological disorder to observe someone dealing with the same issues in a more productive fashion, the first person will lea
