An Unexpected Arrival

John lived in a peaceful town called Southquay. It was just another every-day coastal town in Southwest England with the smell of freshly cut grass and the sound of birds humming in the lush countryside. But every year, on the 10th of April the town has it's own rally driving competition. This rally brought many people from around Britain and was all the talk in the local pub. Over the years it had risen to be famous and many great drivers were born from the Southquay rally. John wanted to be one of them.

John was a medium build man and was irresistible to women. Ever since he was a little kid he had dreamt about winning that race and going on to become the world champion. A perfect dream for a perfect man you might say. However recently he had had many money problems with his family and was hoping to resolve them with the cash he would get from winning the race.

He didn't know why he entered the competition; he'd never win. But maybe, just maybe, today he would. He remembered the question form and it said you could win an 'Audi A6' rally edition.

It was very late when John got home. He was tired, disappointed and disorientated. That Readers Digest Prize Draw letter was still there. "Why me?" John whispered in a half tone. The letter lay there, and John was bent down to pick it up. He was going to throw it in the bin, but a gust of window blew in through the window and the paper flipped over. In more coloured print read the words "YOU'VE ALSO WON L20000 AND A HOLIDAY IN THE CARIBEAN!"

week and John was pretty certain of winning it.

He'd studied the course for weeks and knew it backwards. The first corner; sharp but could be taken in third, the second; a chicane, good for overtaking. He could go on for hours about gear changing, angles and speed for instanc
