The book of Daniel portrays a deeper faith in God during difficult times, while maintaining high dreams for the future. This book proclaims that evil cannot defeat God's purpose for His righteous followers. Daniel's book is not only inspirational, but when taken to a deeper level, it reveals a lot for the reader to discover. One of the best ways to 'dig deeper' into the meaning of the text, is to examine the structure and the other elements within its configuration.


divided in to two major sections. Chapters 1 through 6 are primary descriptive and historical in nature. This narrative section begins with an introduction to setting and history, and continues with God's special blessings towards Daniel and his friends while training under King Nebuchandnezzar. Their continued faithfulness to God was returned in many ways over those three years. The King was very impressed with their ability to understand his visions and dreams, and he held them in high regard. This section continues with a description of the King's dreams, of which the men continually interpreted and they were soon elevated to high positions under the King's reign. Although they served their earthly king, their confidence was in their Godly king. Nothing was able to stray them from their convictions. When Nebuchandnezzar found out of their faith, he ordered them to change or be destroyed in the fiery furnace. Their decision to be martyred was made without hesitation. But God saved them from the fire, and God was personally revealed to Nebuchandnezzar.

Secondly, sovereignty is indicated through the development of the character. In chapter 3, God did not allow Shadrach, Meshack, and Abendnego to be destroyed in the blazing fire. Because of God's nature, not only were they protected, but they rose up and held in high status. Their loyalty to God is unbound and sets an example for the people of the kingdom. Those who lied and were deceitful were burned and faced the wrath of their decisions and mistrust in God.

The people of Daniel's time had not yet received the gift of Christ and His eternal promises. The blessings given to Daniel inspired the people of the Old Testament to develop their faith in God. Unsure of what the future held, these people needed proof of a sovereign God, and desired a promise for the imminent. Through Daniel, God provided His people with that promise. Although the term sovereignty itself is not heavily mentioned in this book, its implications certainly are. Although divided into a historical a
